Fun on board

Posted by on June 25, 2012
Next day we decided to survey the Jib as we had a few problems furling it in.
It wasn’t good news , there was a twist at the peak. Frank must go to the top of the mast AGAIN! (previously he had  to fasten the wind vane)
This is a job that must be done with a lot of care and double checking.
Frank is all set in his boson’s chair , Mick on the winch and me on the back up line. We do have an electric winch we use for the anchor but it just wasn’t possible to get the direction of the halyard to the winch correct , so he was winched up by hand.
He was able to fix the problem with out a fuss.
Doing this job is one of the displeasure of yacht ownership. Frank doesn’t seem to mind at all.
Although we did think it might be fun to leave him dangling for a while, trouble is he was having to much fun,
taking photos and enjoying the view.
Now time to set off to Mjet We purchased a ticket from Pomena  for the ferry ride to the Benedictine Monastery, which is caught from Mali Most. (about a 15 min walk away). There are two salty lakes and the The Monastery is on a small island in the larger lake.
Mjet is a national park and is very well kept , there are a lot of things forbidden in this national park ,which is expected, but you can take your dogs as long as they are on a lead.
From the Monastery we decided to catch to ferry Pristianiste and then do the 3 km walk to Palace. (Pron Palachi
Palace is a beautiful spot to anchor, very protected. In the town there is the remains of a 2nd century Roman palace.
It seemed quite unusual to see a restaurant on one side and a house on the other ,and a main road in the middle of the ruins
A visit to the local shop is required for a sugar boost , some how we came out with sljuvovica (Croatian Plum Brandy)
Brilliant up selling!
We then walked 4km back to Pomena.
We had dinner at Kanobo Kiko and were not disappointed yet again!
Mjet is a fabulous island and it is possible to  explore by bike and also car, which can be hired.
we will definitely visit here again.
We set sail making our way back to kastela as Mick and Marty , are heading home via venice.
We had  the most perfect sail to Bryna and anchored on the North side at Kosirina. It was hard to believe that 2 days ago we were battling 28 knot winds in this part of the sea.
Part way through this journey we came across a line of flotsam , it was as far as we could see (very calm waters) and as we went through it was 2 metres deep. We have found that there is a lot of plastic rubbish floating in the ocean, a very sad sight indeed.
Its important that we all dispose of our rubbish responsibly , where ever we are in the world. We had the unfortunate pleasure of a large plastic bag wrapped around the prop.
We headed for vinogradisce so Mick and Marty could take the water taxi to Hvar ( the water taxi is taken from the ACI marina at Palmizana .
While Frank was busy doing WABO maintenance I decided to take myself to shore with Wabo Jnr to  catch up on Internet and power. The ACI Marina has a nice area to sit with both.
Now previously i mentioned I am now skipper of Wabo Jnr and I do a pretty good job , when I have crew . Arriving at the jetty was a bit of a challenge but managed to achieve the landing (only hit the prop on a little  rock which  just popped out of nowhere). The return Journey was another story!! on my approach to WABO I met some fellow Aussies , who wanted to chat.
I just couldn’t seem to line up and grab the ladder, I went left, then right , then head on , I just couldn’t  reach , all this time they were asking random questions ! finally Frank came on deck from the cabin ignoring my dilemma  and continued the conversation. I then was able to line up the starboard side and grab the boat toe rail and walk the dingy back to the rear with my hands, appearing very professional!!
This is something similar to what you would see on a cartoon.
With Mick and Marty now on board after enjoying there time in Hvar , It time to head back to Kastela so they can continue their  holiday to Venice and return home.
We have all had a fabulous time , If laughter is good medicine then we have had plenty, not just a giggle real belly laughs .
Marty thought we should have had our own reality show , It would have been top rating.

    Hi Guys,

Lovely to catch-up with you via your blog – it’s all most interesting and great that you’re having so much fun. We haven’t got the map out to see where you’re actually going, but I guess it will be interesting doing that when you’re back in Perth.

We’ve at last committed to a move-in date, so the removalists arrive on Friday. Jane has been frantically emptying cupboards and packing boxes and I’ve been doing all sorts of other things to try and be ready. At the moment this house (112) is a total disaster zone whereas the other house (28) looks really good. We will shortly fix that by having both houses in complete turmoil.

Chris arrives in the early hours of Monday morning, so we will be moved-in by then, with plenty of good hard work ready to be done by a strong lad in the garden. Janet has also saved 400 plants to be dug-in at Ledge Pt.

Hopefully by the time you send your next blog we will have internet installed at the new house and can give you an update on the move.

    All our Love
